VERDICT
May 5th, 2017: It took me a couple years, but I'm finally getting around to sharing my thoughts on these matte lippies...I'm decluttering them, so I wanted to sit down and make sure I swatched and reviewed these before passing them on. I have the shades Cranberry and Fuchsia, which are both beautiful, but there are 13 different shades you can choose from...although it looks like the shade Fuchsia is no longer sold on the elf website.

Cranberry is a nice brick red that has a hint of brown to it and the Fuchsia is a bright red based pink...although once it's on the lips they look pretty much identical. I applied Fuchsia to my top lip and Cranberry to my bottom lip, but I don't think you can really notice a difference between the two in my lip swatch...can you?
There is a noticeable difference in the swatches on my hand...
...but on the lips it's very subtle, so unless you're staring at them up close I doubt you can tell a difference...especially if you didn't know I had two different shades on. If you scrutinize my lip swatch though you'll see that the bottom lip is a hair browner and the top lip a hair pinker, but it's such a slight difference.

Anywho, I personally am not a huge fan of this product. I don't hate it and it's not bad or anything like that, but I don't love it either. It's been sitting in my lip collection for a couple years now and I've probably only worn them a few times. It is a nice easy quick throw something on the lips type of product, but I personally just prefer lip glosses over anything else. It's just a personal preference of mine. Generally I'm always reaching for a tinted lip balm or lip gloss so these are often overlooked.

While this is called a matte lip color, these are not matte. They're more of a satin finish and the formula is hydrating and comfortable to wear. It doesn't dry down and it isn't transfer proof in the slightest, so you will have to reapply these throughout the day but it's very travel friendly and easy to apply so you can just throw it in your purse and touch up as needed. Also, while these are pigmented, the colors are not completely opaque...it's more of a medium coverage slightly buildable lip color. I didn't detect any scents, but it does taste good. I didn't mean to taste these, but I happened to lick my lips after wiping the lip swatch off with a tissue and my lips had a sugary sweet taste to them.

Like I said, while I don't love these I don't hate them either. They're extremely affordable, especially if you have a coupon or wait for a sale, so if you're looking for a nice, quick, easy to apply lip color that you can throw into the purse and take with you on the go then these are perfectly fine.

May 5th, 2017: I'm finally getting around to reviewing these as well...although these have been discontinued in the two or so years it's taken me to share my thoughts. You can still find them floating around on Amazon and some other sites depending on which shade you're looking for, but these are no longer sold on the elf website and one of the shades that I have doesn't seem to be sold anywhere anymore. I have the shades Movie Star and Sangria Starters, and while you can still find Movie Star which is a nice glossy sheer blue toned red I don't think you'll be able to find Sangria Starters anymore which is a glossy sheer brown based mauve nude.
These are definitely a lot more pigmented when swatched on the hands, but on the lips they are a lot more sheer and truly feel and perform like a gloss. I have Movie Star swatched on my top lip and Sangria Starters on my bottom lip and as you can see Sangria Starters is a very sheer nude while Movie Star is more pigmented.
Because of the glossy formula, these were a lot more up my alley and I like them a lot better than the matte lip colors reviewed above BUT these smell like crayons. Legit smells exactly like Crayola Crayons which totally turns me off of these. I am not a fan of putting something on my lips that smells so strongly of crayons, so these have just been sitting in my lip collection unused for that reason. Why I didn't just get rid of them way back when...I don't know, but I'm finally purging them from my collection. If it weren't for the scent I would definitely keep these in my purse and use them up, but the scent.

If you don't mind a crayola crayon scent and like a nice sheer glossy finish then these are really nice. I do like the actual formula, but like I mentioned above these have been discontinued. While you can still find some shades on Amazon and some other sites, they're a lot more expensive than I remember paying for these and I don't know that it's worth it. It's still inexpensive of course, but it's like double maybe triple what it originally cost and I don't think it's worth it to go out of your way to purchase this discontinued product.

April 20th, 2017: Not a fan. The brush is too thin, long, and flimsy making it hard to apply...at least for me it was, and the eyeliner itself is not that opaque and pigmented. The formula is very water-y. Mine is in the shade charcoal so I wasn't expecting it to be jet black, but it just kind of looks like a faded black...sort of like a sheer-ish black vs. a purposeful dark gray...probably because it's got such a watery formula. Also, it's got lots of tiny micro-glitters in it, which I don't mind, but if you do FYI. Also it's smudge-y and not 100% budge proof, so it starts to get messy as the day wears on, probably due to the watery formula...I'm guessing. You definitely don't want to sweat or cry with this on. It will get everywear, but on the upside it's very easy to remove even with just plain water. Even though it's only $2, I don't think it's worth it. This is a definite pass for me.
