VERDICT
December 6th, 2016: I was wandering around Target a few weeks ago when I noticed this new incarnation of the Chapstick Total Hydration line. As you can see in my review below, I LOVE the Coconut Hydration lip balm so I was super excited to see there was a new tinted version available and this immediately went into my cart...but whoa is this pigmented. I would call this a super moisturizing lipstick rather than a tinted lip balm, and the color...I did not realize it was going to be so dark brownish red and vampy. Definitely not an everyday lip color...at least for me.

If you're someone that likes and wears a vampy lip on an everyday basis then you'll love this shade, but me...I totally regret getting this in the shade Merlot. Not that it's a bad color...but I got this to wear on an everyday basis and the color is just not an everyday color for me. I definitely should have gone for the Coral tint, but I love reds and its the holiday season and looking at the packing I though it was going to be a nice blushy berry red just like the color on the packaging and since it's a Chapstick tinted lip balm that it would be on the sheerer side and not so pigmented...but alas I was wrong.

As for the actual performance of the lip balm. It's not as amazingly awesome as the Coconut Hydration and doesn't last as long, but it's still a great solid hydrating lip balm...while the Coconut Hydration scores a 100%, this scores like an 89%...a solid "B+". Almost an "A", but falls just the teeniest bit short.

That said, I would still recommend skipping this particular tinted lip balm because it is high maintenance. Like I said, this is more like a super hydrating lip stick than a tinted lip balm and because of that and the fact that this is a super pigmented dark vampy color this is #1 patchy on the lips like a lot of dark and vampy lipsticks are and #2 gets EVERYWHERE. It is not transfer proof and it gets on your cups and food and teeth...and if you're someone that has lips that bleed lipstick you might want to use a lip liner with this because I have a feeling it will slip and slide outside the perimeter of your lips like crazy. Also, you might want to use a lip brush as well to apply it...if you have one. I don't have a lip brush so I use my fingers as best as I can and ignore the fact that it's not a perfect application as I just use this around the house and before bed.

Lip balms are supposed to be easy breezy to use, but with this one you have to look in a mirror and work with it. I haven't tried the other colors...the Coral and the Rose Petal, but I would skip this one, unless you really love the color and don't mind it being high maintenance...if that's the case then go for it because it is still a solid lip balm that will keep your lips hydrated and nice.

It's not really coming off as brown, dark and vampy in the picture as it is in real life, but look at how pigmented that is! Doesn't it look like I've got a lipstick on? Anywho, it actually doesn't look that bad in the picture...well not bad, but you know what I mean. If it looked like that in real life, and by it I mean the color...if the color was the same in real life as it looks in the picture I would be ok with that...I would've liked that a lot better.

Bought this on a whim while I was at Walmart and I'm so glad I did. This is the best chapstick/lip balm that I've ever used. It glides/melts onto the lips like butter and it's SUPER moisturizing and healing.

Ironically after having made it through the entire winter without a single crack in my lips, they've been drying out and getting chapped lately for some reason even though I've been applying lip balm like crazy. This, however, totally fixed that problem after only one day of use. I slathered it on before I went to bed and I woke up the next morning to smooth lips. They were pretty much back to normal. Crazy. I've never had a chapstick or lip balm work that fast and well before. Definitely my new favorite and go to holy grail chapstick.

The only "con" is that it seems to wear down pretty quickly. After only a few uses I've already made a dent in it. I feel like I'll probably burn through this pretty quickly, but it's only a couple bucks so not a big deal.

I've only tried the coconut so far, but after my experience I want to go buy and try the other 4 flavors in this line. Would definitely recommend giving this Coconut Hydration a go.
